Around Vernon County and Viroqua Wisconsin there are several Amish Communities. Of which, many of the families have been living here for decades. Many have moved in from Ohio, Indiana and other states, they come here because it is rural and unregulated.
Lately the main topic in the local news is all about Horse Manure. It seems it must be piling up around town. This is somewhat funny because last year the big gripe in town was front yard gardens. Then it was about some of our younger and newer residents deciding to raise corn fields in the front yard. It is common to have a backyard garden, but instead of grass in the front yard, vegetable gardens including corn was planted by a few. A vocal group of unhappy locals, started to complain and it became a hotly debated topic. Well, not much word on that issue this year and actually I have to say, I have not seen any corn around town this year at all. Nope, none in any one of the front yards of any houses that I have passed by.
However, the manure complaints are now getting even more vocal. We have a farmers market each Saturday morning. So, maybe it is in the WCCU parking lot that the horse manure is piling up? Many Amish come daily into town, of course they usually come in their horse drawn buggies. So is it piling up along the highways and in the WalMart parking lot? Hey, if a horse has to go, well it does. I must say I personally have not seen any manure piles around town so is this an over reaction or where exactly is the worse of the problem at?

Mary
People can complain about anything these days. That's a bunch of crap. Actually I would think manure on those home gardens could get things really taking off.
Tom, you are a hoot, I actually think the same thing, get your own bucket and grab some of that great manure for your front yard garden... LOL
Mary,
What a funny story. It made me think of the Seinfeld episode where George is on a date in Central Park and tell the girl he actually likes the word manure.
Hello Richard, I missed that episode, but bet it was about as funny as this manure crisis, where ever it is piling up in Viroqua.
I know that Seinfeld episode too and there are definitely worse things to be concerned about than manure being a huge problem. LOL
Debra, now I really want to see that episode. That is the point there, there is a lot of worse things going on in the area than our Amish neighbors horses. For example: like a CAFO proposed with 3200 head of cows... (confined animal feedlot operation) now that would be a real lot of manure.
Now Mary....let's get creative here....a large pooper scooper and this stuff could be recycled into fertilizer...Mulch from Mary....Mary's Mega Manure....How does your garden grow...not contrary with manure from Mary....when life give you lemons...or in this case...don't flush it...re-cycle it !
Sally exactly, if the HM is dropped on your front yard, curb or a parking lot around town don't look a gift horse in the butt mouth. Run to the street and scoop it up for the garden, it was free and delivered to directly from Horse to town.
A hahahahhahahha Sally and David are hilarious!!!
