Viroqua Wisconsin: Amish Farm For Sale

Amish Farm For Sale

Amish Farmstead : This farmette comes with 61 acres and an old 4 bedroom red brick house. There are 3 bedrooms up and 1 bedroom down. The Living area of this old house has been opened up between the kitchen, dining room and living room. There is original hardwood floors and some woodwork.

Acreage and grounds: The land does lay on 2 sides of the road, there is approximately 40 acres on one side and 20 acres on the side with the house. There is an original old dairy barn which is now used for horses and hay storage. There is also a large shed building that was a garage/workshop. The second floor of this building has been drywalled but unfinished. There is an old cistern well with gravity feed to the house and an older septic which likely is not up to state standards but is in use.

The house is still wired with electric but service has been kept off for the past 2 years as Amish do not use electric service. This home will be sold "as-is". Advance notice for showing is appreciated.

The Amish are so interesting.  We traveled through Amish country once on a vacation trip and were amazed.  Anyone who can forego electricity is to be admired.  Why is it for sale?

We don't have many/any Amish here that are very visible...I would think from a financing perspective some of the well issues may be a problem...they would be here...would think nothing would happen to the electrical service if it was turned off....unless squirrels chew the wiring from the outside and no one would notice. Interesting challenge....let  us know how it goes !  Good luck !

Barbara: This family is moving to Maine along with a few others that have already sold and left. Usually a place like this sell for cash, but in today's real estate market I will have to see how it goes. 61 acres for the price is huge, only $179000. I see I did not post that.

Sally, Yes both are not up to State Standards of wells and electric, could be replaced by not required unless a lender is involved.

Mary-I was going to ask you if it had electric when I saw you wrote it had been kept off.  Imagine having electric and not using it.  Wow-not for me!

I saw your post of the "perfect picture frame", and it was very pretty, but the setting of this home is beautiful! Almost bermed up into the hill, very picturesque!  We had Mennonites and Amish in a town I lived in not long back, and most recently a polygamist branch of another variety arrived. The first two groups were welcomed into the valley, the last, not so much...

Wow Mary, $179,000 for 60 acres? I'd be curious to see how the inspection goes. Will they turn it on for that?
