Viroqua Wisconsin: Rustic Roads

Rustic Roads

With all the talk of the realty market slowdown...maybe having a slower real estate market in Vernon County is not really such a bad thing! After all, the past 5 years of selling land, cabins and organic farms, has been extremely hectic and busy. Settling all the newcomers into their little pieces of our heaven took much dedication and lots and lots of time. It often necessitated traveling the many back roadways, whizzing and zooming right past the scenery, not stopping, just getting down the road to the next stop in a busy schedule of appointments to show the properties listed for sale. There just was no left over time to take note of what a wonderful place we live in. Hey, dosen't that sounds more like city life... getting back to the basics and a normal market again, is wonderful; rediscovering the enjoyment of nature is a blessing. Having the time to snap a few photos along a lesser-traveled roadway is a pleasure. After all, our rustic, scenic roads are partly why so many come to visit our Coulee Region!

Did you know, Vernon County has 2 Designated Rustic Roads? With a lighter schedule today, I had the extra time to take an enjoyable detour down one of these roads just for fun, Road 55. Locally known as Tunnelville Road, it is only a short 2.8 miles long. This rustic road parallels a stretch of the Kickapoo River offering up some amazing scenery along the way.

Thousands of lush, leafy ferns are thriving along the shady hillsides of this roadway. There was a quaint country barn along the way and the roadway was a peaceful, tranquil green tree lined canopy of filtered sunlight. It was really a nice change of pace to just slow down and take in the scenery along a Rustic Road!

Mary, thanks for the post.  I needed a few minutes to stop and enjoy and appreciate the peaceful, tranquil photos you shared.  Beautiful country photos.

Mary, You are fortunate to work in such a beautiful region. The pictures are lovely and I feel like going for a drive on those rustic roads you described.
