A unique and common site in our hilly area are Ground Clouds. If you have not ever seen one, they are likely to form nearby streams or rivers in low areas. They are clouds at ground level, which are made when warm air that is being cooled by coming into contact with the colder ground temperature then form and hovers on the ground until they disapate.

I thought "ground clouds" were simply fog, but your pictures look like you can just barely drive under those clouds. Very beautiful.
Hey, Mary.
That first picture is absolutely beautiful. I want to stop the car, lay on the ground, and just stare at the clouds like I did as a youngster trying to make shapes out of them.
You are Right Jim, ground clouds are fog, but these usually just hover around the streams on a ward day.
Thanks Russel for the comment, they are beautiful!
Mary, Thanks for sharing these cool pictures. I took a few shots of similar clouds in the Virginia mountains last year. Not nearly as nice as these.
Mary... How cool is that? I've never heard, let alone seen ground clouds before. Thanks for sharing.
Those are beautiful shots of the clouds. Different clouds photos are a favorite.
Very Cool. That must be a beautiful sight. I love the rollings hills and bluffs of WI.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing, Mary! I have never seen clouds that low before.
That is so cool, one of the things I loved the best when I was a kid and a runner was when I was running down the mountain and would actually be above the coulds and then running in to them. It was a really weird feeling and would have made a great picture.
Thank for the comment Todd. These clouds are very similar to what you are describing, only at the bottom of a valley in our area not at the mountain top in your area!
Wow, I've never seen clouds that low! That is neat. Thanks for sharing the photos
I love the way the clouds just hang there above the ground!
