Viroqua Wisconsin: Old Barns

Old Barns

A big old red barn is probably one of the first things most people think of when you imagine a farm. Many barns are being torn down each year because they are no longer serving any purpose for the landowner.

When I drive by one and the view is just right, I cannot help pulling over and taking a photo.

Perhaps they just no longer satisfy the needs of a modern farmer. Keeping an old barn in good condition and preserving them is the goal of the Wisconsin Historical Preservation Society.

I grew up on many a farm with many a barn, only one of which was red. I'm rooting for the Wisconsin Historical Preservation Society.

Russel, you know those newer pole shed barns just don't have the charm of the old fashion dairy barns.

Hi Mary:

I just love the old barns - Darling Calf - They need to be preserved. There is a neat organization called barn again that is preserving barns throughout the US - Imagine if they could talk!!! Here is a pic of my barn -

Barns and covered bridges are part of the beauty of the Americana landscape.

Hello Norma: Aren't they ever, we don't have covered bridges here in my area but they too are part of the Americana country scenery.

Old Barns have so much personality, so much soul! I would hate to see them become extinct.
