Oh no it's back... here it comes again...a house that I have sold 3 times before. I recall the first time I encounter this house. I actually tried to just set up an appointment to show it; I was told it had an accepted offer. That may have ended up being a good thing. I sold my client at the time, another home and they still reside there today. It was their second choice of a home. Back to the question... do you think houses have karma?
Less than two years later... the owner who purchased this little cottage of a home, so cute with 12 acres, nice horse shed and stream, were now moving out of town. They happened to be Amish; the Amish do move around a lot and it was not a surprise to me that they wished to sell so soon. This was perfect timing, as I was working with an eager to buy, newly wed couple in search of a weekend retreat. Sold that place to them, right way. The following summer comes the call; we wish to sell our house. Turns out, they announce they were getting a divorce. I'm wondering to myself, why... they were so loving and cheerful, what could have went wrong? Again, I put the home on the market, same thing... again, I sell it quickly to of all persons, another newly wed couple. This time they are moving into the home full time, and are new to the community. They wanted horses too, loved the house and the location and were so very happy.
Then again, less than 2 years later, I get a call; we want to sell our house. They too are getting a divorce... is this déjà vu? I again list the home for the 3rd time; it sells to another couple by another agent and fortunately, I think, these buyers are not newly wed. I just noticed it is BOM, with an agent who I know lists a lot of REO's. All this makes me wonder, do houses have destinies? Is there a karma impact on the occupants or is this all just all happenstance?

Hi Mary, The reason you kept getting called back is because of the excellent job that you did for those families. Great job to you! And yes, I do believe that houses have karma. I have a rental house that I have never been able to keep the tenant in for longer than 8 months and they're gone. Silly me, sold the house one, turned around and bought it back again (great deal) and STILL the same problem. I don't have that problem with any of my other rentals!
Hi Sandy, Thanks for the compliment, the second owner told me right after they moved in the house just seemed to change the way they felt about each other, have to wonder if there was a spirit there. Or, was it that the house just made them moody.
Wow! Sounds like a horror movie! Just add a ghost or something. We once managed a rental house that I SWEAR was cursed. It was totally trashed when we took it over, we had several tenants there who started out good and went bad. And there was just something about the house. It just didn't "feel" right. I'm not superstitous, and I don't believe in ghosts. I finally decided it was turned wrong on the lot- bad feng shui or something. Finally our Owner sold it to someone who tore the manufactured home off and built, and I haven't seen it for sale since, so maybe that fixed the problem.
I'm surprised by your comment the Amish move around alot. I would have expected that they would be on inherited land where they lived forever.
Leslie, the Amish move a lot to mix and marry from other Amish groups since they are a small closed society. It was a really cute house, but was dark inside, that could have something to do with it. Maybe should have put in some skylights?
I couldn't help it, but the first thing I thought of was if perhaps the house was haunted or something. I hear about that quite a bit around here where we have some really, really older homes. One of them couldn't keep tenants in it, and the owner disclosed to me that it was haunted. I ended up NOT taking the listing, as I got too spooked!
I bet the home you posted about is just yearning for a happy owner to make it a "home". Maybe those skylights would really do wonders!
Jeannie, Part of the house was very old and an original hand hewn log, settler's cabin. Would have dated back to the mid 1800's.
